Kellogg Dental is happy to provide veneers to our patients who need them. Veneers are perfect if you have teeth with gaps, chips, or stains, but take the time to think over this decision as veneers are irreversible.
Veneers are a thin, custom-made piece of porcelain that mimic the natural look of your teeth. They are used to close gaps between teeth or fix small misalignments, but some patients also choose veneers as a solution to some cosmetic problems such as discoloration or chips. At Kellogg Dental, your veneers can be created and placed in one to two office visits.
During your first appointment, your dentist will clean your teeth and choose a veneer color that most closely matches the natural color of your teeth. Next, they will remove a portion of the enamel on your teeth to make room for the veneer. You dentist will then take an impression of your teeth and send it to the lab where your veneer will be crafted. In the meantime, your dentist will provide you with a temporary veneer to wear until your permanent one is ready. Once your permanent veneers arrive at Kellogg Dental we will have you come in for your next appointment. Your dentist will remove the temporary veneer and clean your teeth again. Then, your dentist will secure your permanent veneer to your teeth with an adhesive, curing them with a light for about 60 seconds to make sure it is fully attached to your teeth’s structure. Finally your dentist will clean any excess material away and polish the edges of your new veneer.
While you will need to replace your veneers eventually, when properly cared for, they can last you 10-20 years. You should brush and floss your veneer just like you would your normal teeth, and you should try to limit consuming any food or beverages that could stain them such as tea or coffee.
